We devised a technical sales tool for Carborundum in
Excel that allowed the input of customers’ equipment properties in
terms of pipe or furnace diameter, orientation, internal gas/fluid temperatures,
external (ambient) temps, material etc. It contained lookups for the thermodynamic
and heat properties of aluminium vs steel etc. and a catalogue of Carborundum products
(inc. widths & thermo dynamic properties).
This allowed the interactive selection of multiple products to insulate the customers’
equipment and charted instantly the anticipated temperature drop (e.g. from 1000
degree moulern furnace content through the furnace wall, through each layer of suggested
insulation material to the outside layer. It also presented heat loss figures for
energy consideration. The field engineer could then publish quotations based on
the customers’ chosen selection.
It also allowed the client to make the most environmentally efficient choices.
